Senior Robotics Engineer – Job Specifications
Key Objective
Octobotics develops advanced Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) robots for the Oil & Gas, Offshore, and Chemical sectors. Operated by NDT professionals (non-CSE), these robots capture inspection data from industrial assets such as oil storage tanks, chemical tanks, and refinery structures. The systems transmit high-bandwidth NDT data (50–80 Mbps) for localization on a digital twin, enabling precise asset health and integrity monitoring.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Considerations
- Implement robust safety mechanisms for communication loss, fail-safe operation, and self-diagnostic error detection.
- Develop and refine automated, tiered alert systems for error reporting.
- Ensure accurate localization of NDT readings on physical structures.
- Optimize the 50–75% of existing operational features.
- Focus for the next 3–6 months includes:
- CI/CD framework deployment.
- Migration to ROS 2.
- Transition of all custom-built drivers/wrappers to scalable infrastructure.
- Standardization on C++ and ROS middleware.
2. Performance Considerations
- Refactor and optimize code for maximum efficiency.
- Utilize GPU acceleration where applicable.
- Apply NVIDIA Gems algorithms and integrate NVIDIA Isaac with ROS for high-performance robotics.
- Contribute to the design of a vertically integrated robotics platform.
- Build expertise in NVIDIA Isaac ROS and related benchmarking tools.
3. Team & Resource Management (Team Lead Role)
- Lead 3–4 engineers, including:
- Senior ROS Engineer (expert).
- ROS Engineer (testing, documentation, research).
- Option to hire two more: Systems Engineer, ROS Intern, or Embedded Engineer.
- Engage external experts for specialized projects, such as reporting platforms.
4. Future Development & Challenges
- Drive vertical integration of diverse systems into a unified robotics ecosystem.
- Address complex technical challenges requiring innovative solutions.
- Blend technical skill, leadership, and strategic vision to advance autonomous NDT robotics.
Ideal Candidate
A motivated robotics engineer eager to solve complex problems and shape the next generation of autonomous inspection solutions.
