Overview
Applied R&D Data Scientist role in Lonza’s Advanced Synthesis division, turning scientific data into AI-enabled solutions for life sciences R&D.
What you'll do
- Develop and apply machine learning, statistical, AI, and cheminformatics solutions to R&D challenges.
- Transform structured and unstructured scientific data into actionable insights and decision-support tools.
- Build, validate, and optimize predictive and analytical models for areas like reaction prediction and impurity analysis.
- Design and evaluate AI-enabled capabilities such as generative AI, semantic search, and information extraction.
- Create reproducible data pipelines, feature engineering workflows, and model evaluation frameworks.
- Collaborate with R&D scientists, chemists, engineers, product managers, and data/IT teams to deliver solutions.
What you'll need
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a relevant quantitative or scientific discipline.
- Demonstrated experience applying data science or machine learning to chemistry/drug or related R&D problems.
- Strong Python programming skills and experience with libraries such as pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, and/or PyTorch.
- Working knowledge of chemistry and chemical data, including structures, reactions, properties, and experimental datasets.
- Experience developing, validating, and interpreting predictive models with clear communication of uncertainty/limitations.
- Proven ability to work independently in ambiguous technical environments and deliver high-quality results.
