Overview
Anthropic is scaling compute internationally and is hiring a Japan Country Lead to own the compute strategy and coordinate a cross-functional build-out in Japan.
What you'll do
- Own end-to-end strategy and coordination for Anthropic’s compute build-out in Japan from site selection through operations.
- Coordinate accountability across leasing, financing, energy, government relations/policy, community engagement, construction, and operations workstreams.
- Provide working leadership to the in-country cross-functional team, aligning efforts and unblocking issues.
- Represent Anthropic externally with government officials, utilities, energy providers, and other stakeholders in Japan.
- Build and maintain relationships in the Japanese government and energy industry to support site, power, and policy outcomes.
- Track progress and surface risks as the compute footprint scales from initial sites to multiple gigawatts.
- Translate global compute priorities into Japan’s regulatory, political, and market conditions.
What you’ll need
- Be a Japanese national with established links into government and the energy industry (strongly preferred).
- Show a structured thinker who can learn new domains quickly and go deep fast.
- Have excellent communication skills for representing Anthropic to senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrate ability to lead and coordinate cross-functional teams without direct line authority.
- Be highly organized and detail-oriented, able to own multiple concurrent workstreams.
- Comfort with ambiguity and ability to drive structure in undefined situations.
- Have a background in energy, infrastructure, or a related sector.

- Location requires in one of the company offices at least 25% of the time (hybrid policy).
- Visa sponsorship is available, with efforts made if an offer is made.
- The role is accountable for bringing gigawatts of compute online in Japan.
