Overview
Director and Sr. Counsel will act as a client-focused business partner on patents and IP transactions, supporting IP transactions, patent/trade secret portfolio development, and intellectual property advice.
What you'll do
- Review, draft, and negotiate IP-related agreements and other agreements with IP provisions.
- Support IP and technology portions of M&A and joint venture transactions, including due diligence and agreement drafting/review.
- Develop and manage parts of a global patent and trade secret portfolio and manage outside counsel.
- Conduct invention review, patentability searches, and invention review board processes.
- Assess patent landscapes and identify high-value patents in the company portfolio.
- Provide intellectual training and respond to client requests with IP advice.
- Partner with Compliance to ensure proper handling of confidential information, including confidentiality screening for technical publications.
What you'll need
- 8-10+ years of relevant patent experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal department.
- Prior experience in IP transactions and in global patent portfolio development and management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and technical/business acumen.
- A customer-centric mindset and ability to work cross-functionally.
- California bar admission and patent attorney registration at the USPTO.
- Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
