Engineering Manager, Meteorological Services (NEA)

Overview

Engineering Manager for NEA, leading engineering teams that build and scale weather information dissemination platforms delivering forecasts, warnings, and meteorological data.

What you'll do

• Define technical strategies for multi-channel weather information delivery via web platforms, mobile APIs, and direct data feeds.
• Partner with government agencies, media organisations, and regional meteorological centres to develop scalable API solutions and data exchange protocols compliant with WMO standards.
• Build long-term technical roadmaps for public weather services, emergency alert systems, and international meteorological data exchange platforms.
• Lead engineering teams for high-traffic web applications, mobile-responsive platforms, and real-time alert distribution systems.
• Collaborate with UX designers and meteorological communicators to make weather information accessible and actionable.
• Establish engineering practices to ensure reliable delivery of time-sensitive weather warnings and service availability during extreme weather events.

What you'll need

• Experience working on large-scale, high-availability software systems that have operated at scale.
• Modern full-stack web application technology experience; Next.js/React/React Native and Golang/NodeJS (TypeScript) is preferred.
• Strong technical leadership skills to guide teams through complex technical challenges.
• 2+ years of experience coaching developers and helping them enhance performance and grow their careers.
• Ability to guide a team to achieve important goals together.

Nice to have

• Experience building and scaling high-traffic web applications and API platforms serving diverse user communities.
• Understanding of content delivery networks, real-time messaging systems, or alert distribution platforms.
• Background in public service delivery, accessibility requirements, or user-centric design.
• Experience with mobile-responsive development and cross-platform compatibility.
• Familiarity with emergency response systems or time-sensitive information delivery.
• Familiarity with meteorological data dissemination or weather information systems.
• Knowledge of WMO standards, data exchange protocols, or regional meteorological networks.
• Background working with media organisations, government agencies, or public-facing services.
