Java Fullstack Developer- Vice President

Overview

Senior technical leadership role in Applications Development at Citi, responsible for designing and delivering scalable full-stack Java application systems in coordination with cross-functional technology teams.

What you'll do

• Partner with engineering managers, product owners and multi-disciplinary teams to establish architectural roadmaps, integrate enterprise services, and deliver core system enhancements and new digital capabilities.
• Ensure software and application designs adhere to enterprise architecture blueprints, security baselines and industry best practices.
• Resolve high-impact, critical engineering and architectural challenges through in-depth evaluation of complex business flows, technical bottlenecks, system dependencies and industry standards.
• Define, champion and enforce engineering standards for clean code, design patterns, automated unit/integration testing, debugging, code reviews and release readiness.
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of how application architecture, infrastructure, data management and business capabilities integrate to achieve business objectives.
• Apply interpretive thinking and structured analysis to identify complex technical problems and propose modern, scalable and resilient technical solutions.
• Actively leverage generative AI and modern developer-productivity tools to accelerate software delivery, streamline automated test creation, refactor legacy code and elevate code quality.
• Serve as a technical advisor and mentor to mid-level software engineers and analysts, leading technical discussions and delegating engineering tasks effectively.
• Appropriately assess risk when business and technical decisions are made, with particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding client assets.
• Drive compliance with applicable laws, rules and enterprise standards, and escalate, manage and report control issues with full transparency.

What you'll need

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent.
• 6–10+ years of progressive, hands-on experience in full-stack software engineering and application architecture.
• Demonstrated experience leading technical delivery within enterprise environments.
• Advanced, hands-on expertise with Java (Java 17 / 21) and the modern enterprise Java ecosystem.
• Extensive experience with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Security, Spring Data and Hibernate / JPA.
• Proven track record of architecting, implementing and deploying high-throughput, low-latency, resilient and secure microservices and distributed processing systems.
• Hands-on experience with asynchronous messaging and event streaming technologies (Apache Kafka, Solace, or JMS).
• Expertise designing and developing enterprise-grade RESTful APIs and gRPC services with strong authentication/authorization patterns (OAuth2, OIDC, mTLS).
• Deep practical experience building modern, responsive web applications using React and/or Angular with TypeScript and modern ECMAScript (ES6+).
• Proficiency in state management patterns (Redux / NgRx) and reactive streams using RxJS.
• Hands-on experience with Micro-Frontend architectures, standalone components, dynamic routing and complex enterprise data grids (e.g., AG Grid Enterprise, Elemental UI / Design System components).
• Strong mastery of HTML5, CSS3, SCSS, DOM manipulation, responsive layouts and bidirectional communication protocols (WebSockets / Server-Sent Events).
• Deep experience with relational data modeling, schema design, advanced SQL tuning and query optimization on enterprise databases (Oracle).
• Practical experience designing, indexing and maintaining document/key-value NoSQL databases (MongoDB/Couchbase).
• Solid understanding of database clustering, indexing strategies, replica sets, connection pooling and caching strategies.
• Proven experience containerizing applications using Docker and deploying onto container orchestration platforms (Kubernetes / Red Hat OpenShift).
• Hands-on proficiency configuring automated build, test and release pipelines using enterprise platforms (Harness, Jenkins, Tekton, or GitHub Actions) in Linux environments.
• Experience integrating automated code quality, dependency management and vulnerability scanning tools (SonarQube, Snyk, Checkmarx).
• Demonstrated proficiency integrating Generative AI developer tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, or internal LLM coding assistants) into daily development workflows.

Nice to have

• Master's degree.
• Familiarity with enterprise workload automation and job schedulers (Autosys or equivalent).
