Job description

Overview

The Landside Surcharge Specialist processes and maintains landside surcharges related to shipments and modes of transport, including truck, rail, and all SD movements. The role supports accurate surcharge filings, compliance, operational analysis, stakeholder collaboration, and customer and revenue outcomes.

What you'll do

  • Process and maintain landside surcharges related to shipments and modes of transport, including truck, rail, and all SD movements.
  • Execute surcharge filings in AFLS accurately and on time in compliance with FMC and other government regulations.
  • Identify discrepancies in surcharge filings or application and raise correction requests.
  • Ensure all applicable surcharges are captured correctly to support timely filings.
  • Maintain proper documentation and audit trails for surcharge-related entries.
  • Respond to landside surcharge queries and provide resolution support.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, tariff rules, and SOP guidelines.
  • Assist in reducing duplicate entries and incorrect surcharge applications.
  • Provide ad-hoc operational support and generate reports for analysis, tracking, and decision-making.
  • Drive joint initiatives between GSC and Revenue management (ROM/CPM/ROP/IPM) to help achieve organization goals and build rapport.
  • Understand customer requirements and focus on customer and revenue outcomes.
  • Identify and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Report day-to-day team performance and issues to the Process Manager in a timely manner.
  • Work rotational shifts and weekends as required by business needs.
  • Explain exceptions and alternative approaches for routes, pricings, and related matters to stakeholders.
  • Resolve errors and suggest better solutions.
  • Execute Global transitions, ensuring effective Governance and seamless project execution.
  • Adhere to timelines proposed or agreed with stakeholders.
  • Partner with neighbouring processes, including Upstream and Downstream, and stakeholders to obtain buy-in for complex and strategic initiatives.
  • Learn and adapt to new challenges.

What you'll need

  • Graduate in any discipline.
  • Minimum experience of 3 years in this portfolio.
  • Good communication, process improvement, analytics, and convincing skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure with a high sense of urgency.
  • Detail-oriented ability to perform processes as per pre-defined design.
  • Good presentation and Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Ability to analyse and foresee challenges.
  • General awareness of the practical side of commercial processes in the shipping industry.
  • Expertise in understanding short-term and long-term business.
  • Understanding of the end-to-end business and required pricing systems.
  • Understanding of price calculations, surcharge applications, additional costs, and booking requirements.
  • Proficiency in accessing AFLS modules, since most pricing-related activities happen in the AFLS application.
  • Understanding of SPOT business and logics and contract products.
  • Ability to work with high attention to quality; 100% is mandatory.
  • Ability to clearly explain matters to all stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft packages including Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Word.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of PMA and ML.com.
  • Knowledge of Upstream and Downstream processes to collaborate more effectively.
  • Exposure to data analytics tools such as SAPBI, Dataiku, and Databricks.

  • Location: Chennai, India.
  • Shift: 12 PM–9 PM, with a rotational basis according to business needs.
  • Flexible to work rotational shifts and weekends.
