Overview
PhD Research Intern focused on AI/ML/NLP and applying research to real-world business problems.
What you'll do
- Collaborate with senior engineers, product managers, and domain experts to understand customer needs.
- Design, code, and test novel AI/ML solutions using research skills.
- Develop, evaluate, and iterate on AI/ML models, including LLMs, to solve a core business problem.
- Analyze existing platforms to identify bottlenecks and propose algorithmic or systems improvements.
- Gain hands-on experience with production systems, including CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
- Present findings and project outcomes to the team and key stakeholders at the end of the internship.
What you'll need
- Be currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, AI, ML, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
- Have demonstrated research experience in AI/ML/Deep Learning/Generative AI (e.g., publications or significant projects).
- Have strong programming skills in at least one of Python, Java, C#, or Go.
- Have deep understanding of modern ML algorithms, platforms, and packages, including deep learning and LLMs.
- Have a solid grasp of probability and statistics concepts (e.g., Bayesian inference, maximum likelihood estimation).
- Have strong communication skills to translate complex research into practical applications.

- Remote position with a requirement to reside within 30 miles of Portland, ME; Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; Dallas, TX; San Francisco Bay Area, CA; or Seattle, WA.
