Platform Engineer - Backend

Overview

Build the backend platform that Lyric's product teams and AI agents run on, taking ambiguous problems from design to production and owning how they behave there. The work spans core platform services and an agentic layer, including the framework for building and orchestrating agents and the agents built on it.

What you'll do

• Own a platform capability end to end: problem, design, build, release, and iteration.
• Build reusable services, APIs, and execution patterns that other teams build on.
• Design and own data models, concurrency, failure handling, performance, and observability.
• Build production agent loops, tools, and orchestration for agentic work.
• Build experiences on the agentic layer.

What you'll need

• Strong fundamentals in problem decomposition, data structures, low-level design, and debugging.
• Experience with production systems you personally built and owned, including what broke and how they evolved.
• Ability to explain APIs, databases, and system behaviour below the framework layer; exact stack match matters less.
• Startup experience.
• A hands-on ownership style.
• Clear communication when the path isn't prescribed.

Nice to have

• Experience with developer platforms, workflow orchestration, or services with many downstream consumers.
• Experience with agent evaluation, tracing, tool integration, or cost controls.
• Python depth.
