Principal Data Engineer

Overview

Principal Data Engineer to lead architecture, engineering, and modernization of Mastercard’s Rewards Data Platform for global customers and large transaction volumes.

What you'll do

• Define and drive enterprise-scale data platform architecture and modernization strategy.
• Architect distributed batch and real-time data processing solutions.
• Lead ETL/ELT pipeline implementation and workflow orchestration for data movement and transformation.
• Establish standards for data quality, lineage, monitoring, validation, auditing, and error handling.
• Design workflow orchestration patterns and resilient automated workflows.
• Define and implement data security, privacy, compliance, and governance controls.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership through architecture reviews and mentorship.

What you'll need

• Proven experience as a Principal Data Engineer, Lead Data Engineer, or Data Architect in enterprise environments.
• Deep expertise in workflow orchestration.
• Deep expertise in distributed data processing.
• Strong experience in ETL/ELT frameworks, data pipelines, workflow automation, and distributed architectures.
• Strong experience with Apache Spark, Databricks, Hadoop ecosystem, and Kafka/streaming platforms.
• Experience designing and operating high-volume, mission-critical, multi-tenant data platforms.
• Experience with Azure, AWS, or GCP cloud environments.
