Principal Software Engineer - Data

Overview

Own Lyric's data platform end to end, including the semantic layer that models customers' supply chains for reliable querying by AI agents. This hands-on principal individual-contributor role sets architecture, writes production code, raises the engineering bar and works directly with the Head of Engineering.

What you'll do

• Own the semantic layer, including entity models, ontology and knowledge graph, through to the APIs queried by applications and agents.
• Own data foundations, including enterprise ingestion and data contracts, schema evolution, orchestration, storage and query.
• Ensure correctness and reliability in a multi-tenant product, including recovery from hard incidents.
• Set technical direction through RFCs, design reviews and your own code.
• Mentor senior engineers.

What you'll need

• Personally built and owned data platforms or semantic layers in production, including knowledge graphs, metadata or metrics layers, or entity models.
• First-principles systems reasoning about durability, failure and recovery, and where designs break at scale.
• Something built from zero at a startup and taken to production scale.
• Continued production coding and fluency with AI coding tools.
• Clear communication and the presence to lead senior engineers without authority.

• Property graphs or RDF/SPARQL.
