Overview
Scientist II role in Malta, IL supporting Syngenta’s Genotyping Team by executing genotyping protocols in a laboratory setting.
What you'll do
- Execute genotyping protocols including tissue reception, DNA extraction, library preparation, PCR, and sequencing.
- Extract DNA from leaves and/or seeds.
- Prepare DNA libraries for sequencing.
- Add chemical buffers to sample plates and operate sample grinders and liquid handling machines.
- Run scheduled daily DNA extractions and/or library preparations within required time limits while keeping test plates organized to maintain sample identity.
- Update tasks electronically via LIMS and document/procure-related activities including documentation development and maintenance and stock management.
- Support lab equipment maintenance and participate in lab process improvement reviews.
What you'll need
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Biology, Genetics, or a related field.
- Solid understanding of basic laboratory procedures and equipment.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without work authorization sponsorship.
- 2–4 years of professional laboratory experience preferred.
- Experience operating and providing general maintenance on lab equipment (e.g., Tecan, Biotek Multiflos, centrifuges, sample grinders) preferred.
- Experience working with chemical buffers preferred.
- Previous DNA extraction or PCR experience preferred.
