Overview
Senior Data Platform Engineer for Smartly’s Data Platform team, focused on building a governed, reusable data publishing path for product services, analytics, and AI/ML.
What you'll do
- Design and build platform services, tools, and workflows for contract-driven data publishing and consumption.
- Build the production path for PostgreSQL publishing tables, Debezium CDC, Kafka topics, and catalog registration.
- Create GitOps-style workflows to review, validate, and reconcile data contracts and desired runtime state as code.
- Develop tooling to give product engineers fast feedback before publishing or changing data products.
- Operate and improve the CDC runtime model, including Kubernetes workloads and CDC recovery behaviors.
- Integrate platform metadata into DataHub for discovery, ownership, lineage tracing, and impact analysis.
What you'll need
- Strong experience building and operating production software systems in platform/infrastructure/backend/data-intensive environments.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems trade-offs like reliability, idempotency, replay, and eventual consistency.
- Practical experience with PostgreSQL (schema design, migrations, transactions, replication, or operational performance).
- Experience with Kafka and event streaming, including CDC and Debezium or adjacent data-movement technologies.
- Experience building software that other engineers use (e.g., internal platforms, control planes, automation, developer tooling).
- Familiarity with Kubernetes and cloud/infrastructure platforms, including observability and operational ownership.
- Clear written and spoken communication in English.
