Overview
Senior Machine Learning Engineer for Roku’s Recommendations team, responsible for building and owning next-generation personalized content recommendations and related algorithms.
What you'll do
- Build and own content recommendation systems that personalize experiences for Roku users.
- Apply state-of-the-art ML methods for recommendations, including deep learning, bandits, transformers, LLMs, causal inference, and optimizations.
- Run online A/B tests and analyze results against business KPIs.
- Collaborate with engineering and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
- Nurture the ML ecosystem to support scale, developer velocity, and future business shifts.
- Train and mentor new team members.
What you'll need
- 5+ years of experience applying machine learning to concrete problems at large scale.
- Strong CS fundamentals, able to write an algorithm with ease.
- Understanding of ML fundamentals including regression, classification, tree-based approaches, neural networks, and sequence-based models.
- Understanding of NLP approaches like Word2Vec (W2V) or BERT, and ability to identify KPIs and objective functions.
- Good understanding of system architecture.
- Experience with big data technologies including streaming architecture and data pipelines.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or related field.
Nice to have
- Experience building recommender systems as a primary focus.
- Experience with Java, Scala, or Python.
- Experience with big data systems including Spark, EMR, S3, and Airflow.
- Hold an MS or PhD in Computer Science or related fields.
- AI literacy and curiosity, including prior exploration of GenAI.
Details
- Hybrid working: teams generally work in the office Monday through Thursday, with Fridays flexible for remote work except for roles requiring five days’ attendance.
