Sr Machine Learning Engineer

Overview

Sr Machine Learning Engineer role in Amgen’s Manufacturing Applications product team, building scalable data pipelines and ingestion solutions that support knowledge-layer and assistant experiences powered by generative AI.

What you'll do

• Design, develop, and maintain ETL/ELT data pipelines in Databricks using PySpark, Scala, and SQL.
• Develop ML/LLM feature engineering including ingestion, embeddings/vector databases, and RAG/LLM serving with latency optimization.
• Build pipelines to migrate and deploy data across systems for Manufacturing and Operations use cases.
• Implement secure access with logging, privacy controls, governance, and interoperability across hybrid cloud environments.
• Ingest and transform structured and unstructured data from databases, APIs, logs, event streams, images, PDFs, and third-party platforms.
• Ensure data integrity via quality checks and monitoring; improve and automate tasks using reusable frameworks.

What you'll need

• Experience with Databricks, PySpark/Spark, SparkSQL, Apache Spark, AWS, Python, and SQL.
• Proficiency in workflow orchestration and performance tuning on big data processing.
• Strong understanding of AWS services.
• Experience with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Agile delivery practices, and DevOps practices.
• Experience with streaming technologies such as Apache Kafka or Debezium.
• Advanced degree: Doctorate OR Master’s with 6-8 years OR Bachelor’s with 8-10 years in Computer Science/IT or related field.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI-assisted code development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code.
• Experience with vector databases for large language models and SQL/NoSQL databases.
• Experience with biotechnology/pharma or manufacturing-related data sources (e.g., SCADA, Data Historian).
