Overview
The Software Staff Engineer provides software and systems architectural and design leadership to multiple Software Development Scrum Teams delivering Connect Platform & Ecosystem, customer tenancy, authorization, and digital product subscriptions and entitlements. The role actively contributes as a Lead Developer to architecture, design, and development while mentoring and guiding team members.
What you'll do
- Provide software and systems architectural and design leadership to a team of engineers.
- Design and implement cloud service and software architecture for new products and extensions to existing products.
- Act as the team’s “go-to” person for architectural, design, and implementation-related questions and provide guidance.
- Contribute actively to solution analysis of requirements.
- Understand, articulate, and challenge requirements.
- Provide guidance to other programmers on technical aspects relating to the project.
- Perform programming, system design, code review, design review, unit testing, and integration testing.
- Proactively look for ways and patterns to continuously automate feature testing with measurable and tangible goals.
- Lead, empower, mentor, and provide guidance to team members regarding technical challenges.
- Participate actively in development communities of practice by sharing and learning standard processes.
- Lead initiatives within the development community and participate in other organization initiatives.
- Document artifacts and processes and explain them to others.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's in Engineering or Master's in Computer Science with 10+ years of proven experience.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in web application development using Java/J2EE-related technologies.
- Expertise in OOAD principles and methodologies.
- Extensive experience in Java application development frameworks and technologies: Apache Tomcat, Jetty, Google Juice, Spring, and JSON/XML/Ajax.
- Strength in object-oriented principles, design patterns, data structures, and unit testing, including TDD using JUnit.
- Knowledge of Domain-Driven Design (DDD).
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in cloud computing using AWS, such as S3, DynamoDB, SNS, SES, and EC2.
- Minimum 4 years’ experience with databases, including Postgres, MySQL, Oracle, or NoSQL DB, persistence frameworks, and SQL.
- Extensive knowledge of handling sophisticated data structures.
- Experience developing multithreaded applications.
- 3 Years of proven experience with GitHub, Docker, and CI/CD frameworks, including Jenkins.
- Experience defining and implementing Non-Functional Requirements, including security, performance, cost, and code quality.
- Experience designing and architecting large-scale, highly available distributed software.
- Ability to connect dots, nurture technical talent, and maintain a high bar for the team’s behaviours.
- Experience publishing white papers, participating in IP creation, and mentoring and coaching technical talent across multiple teams.
- Belief in expertise-based technical leadership and fostering continuous learning.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
