Staff Software Engineer

Overview

Staff Software Engineer to own technical direction for production systems in the Unstructured Content Portfolio (Broker Research), including real-time ingestion, processing, delivery, and entitlement enforcement.

What you'll do

• Set technical direction for your area, including build-vs-buy decisions, architecture, and the technical roadmap.
• Turn ambiguous problems into concrete plans, scoping work and breaking initiatives into deliverable increments.
• Design and deliver scalable, production-grade pipelines and services for real users at scale.
• Use AI-assisted development tools in your engineering workflow to accelerate delivery.
• Evaluate and integrate AI/ML capabilities into production systems when needed.
• Lead cross-team technical initiatives via RFCs, architectural reviews, and consensus building.
• Own systems end-to-end, monitoring SLOs/SLIs, troubleshooting issues, and improving reliability.

What you'll need

• Strong in Python as the primary backend language.
• Shipped production code in at least two languages.
• Designed and owned production systems serving real users at scale.
• Led cross-team technical initiatives without formal authority.
• Strong system design instincts including failure modes, data flow, scalability, and operational cost.
• Deep DevOps and operational experience with Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and observability.
• Track record mentoring engineers and raising team standards through pairing, reviews, and leading by example.

Nice to have

• Experience leading large-scale migrations or platform rewrites.
• Hands-on experience with AI/ML in production (LLMs, BERT, NLP pipelines, or document understanding).
• Contributed to or driven organization-wide standards, practices, or tooling.
