Staff Software Engineer, Data Platform

Overview

Staff Software Engineer responsible for the strategy, architecture, development, and operation of Airwallex’s data and AI platforms. The role also involves technical leadership, team building, and mentoring in a fast-paced environment.

What you'll do

• Identify and resolve company-wide challenges using data platform solutions.
• Set technical direction for Airwallex’s data platform.
• Lead hands-on solutions to complex data platform problems.
• Promote data platform best practices and technical innovation.
• Mentor data platform team members in technical and professional development.
• Build a high-performing data platform team.

What you'll need

• At least 8 years of experience in data platforms or equivalent quantitative academic and work exposure.
• Experience leading company-wide initiatives across multiple teams or influencing technology roadmaps.
• Experience collaborating with diverse teams and stakeholders to deliver business outcomes.
• Technical leadership experience across ETL frameworks, metrics stores, infrastructure management, and data security.
• Experience building and maintaining reliable multi-geographical data pipelines at scale.
• Familiarity with workflow or orchestration frameworks such as Airflow or DBT.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience designing modern Lakehouse data-processing patterns.
• Experience with GCP, Databricks, BigQuery, DataProc, Kafka, Kubernetes, Spark, DataFlow, Google Cloud Storage, or Airflow.
• Experience evaluating technologies and conducting proof-of-concepts for architecture design.
