Overview

Staff+ Software Engineer on the Databases team to architect and operate database infrastructure that powers Claude’s products and Anthropic research.

What you'll do

• Drive the technical direction for database solutions used across Product and Research.
• Design and implement database systems that scale to support millions of users.
• Set database strategy, including handling billions of API requests and multi-cloud storage.
• Build data movement infrastructure for migrations, backfill, and change data capture.
• Design and operate caching infrastructure with CDC-driven cache invalidation.
• Optimize database performance, reliability, and cost efficiency at scale.

What you'll need

• Significant experience building and operating production database or storage systems.
• Deep knowledge of distributed database architectures and OLTP systems at scale.
• Proficiency with SQL and at least one major relational or distributed database engine.
• Track record of leading large, complex infrastructure projects as engineer or tech lead.
• Ability to balance speed with production reliability needs.
• Strong technical leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Details

• Annual compensation range: $320,000–$485,000 USD.
• Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
• Location-based hybrid policy: staff expected in an office at least 25% of the time.
• Visa sponsorship available in some cases.
