Staff Software Engineer, Mobile QA

Overview

Staff Software Engineer, Mobile QA on the App Infra team within Coinbase's Consumer & Business group, leading QA for the native Swift and Kotlin rewrite of the retail mobile app.

What you'll do

• Own the technical strategy for mobile QA infrastructure across the native rewrite, operating at depth across the team's codebases and designing operational practices that lower maintenance and operational overhead while raising release quality.
• Build and scale automated test systems for recurring regression testing.
• Set and refine what gets automated versus what stays human across regression, performance validation, and release readiness gating.
• Lead the QA readiness workstream for the phased rollout, driving clarity across success metrics, resourcing, and operations.
• Guide when to invest more testing resources and when to pull back as quality gains diminish.
• Partner cross-functionally with engineering leadership, product, and design to define SLOs and quality dashboards that provide the metric-driven controls for rollout speed decisions.
• Shape the QA onboarding playbook for product teams transitioning to native.
• Set the team's hiring bar for QA contributors and mentor L3-L5 engineers on test architecture, native debugging, and quality standards.

What you'll need

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in mobile test infrastructure, including architecting automated regression systems for native iOS and Android at scale.
• Track record of defining and delivering test infrastructure strategy that other engineering teams depend on.
• Strong proficiency in Swift and Kotlin with the ability to architect test frameworks, debug native app behavior, and enforce compile-time quality constraints, maintaining standards even in the face of pressure to ship.
• Experience operating QA processes during large-scale migrations or platform transitions, including managing dual-codebase parity validation, phased rollout quality gates, and leading SEVs and postmortems that improve team practices.
• Demonstrated ability to build alignment and secure commitment from cross-team and cross-functional partners on quality standards, testing strategy, and release criteria.
• Uses generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and measurable gains in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Details

• Location: Remote - USA.
• Remote-first but not remote-only; expect to get together quarterly for in-person working sessions called "surges."
• Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus): $218,025 - $286,500 USD.
• Total compensation may include equity, bonus eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).
• Application limit: maximum of 3 applications within a 6-month period.
