AI Engineer

Overview

Build and deploy enterprise-grade AI agents for banking clients on Backbase's AI-Native Banking OS, while shaping the product and platform roadmap based on customer needs.

What you'll do

• Collaborate closely with clients to architect, build, and deploy robust AI agents capable of operating at scale.
• Adapt established software engineering practices to address the unique challenges of AI agents, including non-deterministic behaviors, natural language integration, and LLM dependencies.
• Leverage modern tools such as Cursor and Claude Code to speed up agent creation.
• Explore the design of harness and self-optimizing systems that improve through real-world usage, user feedback, and self-play loops.
• Surface unmet customer needs, prioritize initiatives, and collaborate with product and platform teams to shape the future of AI agent development and Backbase's product and platform.

What you'll need

• Minimum 3 years in building agentic applications.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Hands-on experience with Agentic AI frameworks, architectures, and design patterns.
• Hands-on experience with knowledge-base, AI-search, retrieval-augmented generation, context engineering, evaluation, and guardrailing.
• Well-versed in modern AI agent patterns including MCP, A2A, and ACP, with an understanding of building modular systems where agents collaborate, reason, and adapt to context dynamically.
• Proactive, resourceful, curious, and comfortable moving fast (startup mindset).
• Strong communicator and documentation advocate who believes in sharing knowledge and building for scale.
