Overview
AI Engineer role at Barclays focused on designing, developing, and improving software capabilities using modern engineering practices. You will lead the overall engineering and development for a multi-year platform simplification initiative with Generative AI delivery and secure, scalable application development.
What you'll do
- Develop and deliver high-quality software solutions.
- Ensure code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to define software requirements and solution strategies.
- Participate in code reviews and promote code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Adhere to secure coding practices and unit testing practices.
- Lead engineering and development for the platform simplification initiative and coordinate requirement discovery, delivery planning, roadmap, and stakeholder management.
What you'll need
- Experience in SOLD Simplification.
- Strong full-stack engineering expertise using Python or Java (Python with FastAPI/Django or Java with Spring Boot) plus modern frontend (React, Angular, or TypeScript).
- Hands-on delivery of Generative AI solutions, including LLM integration, prompt engineering, RAG, embeddings, vector databases, and agentic AI workflows.
- Design secure, scalable enterprise applications with microservices, REST APIs, event-driven architecture, databases, authentication, and enterprise integration patterns.
- Cloud-native engineering and DevSecOps, including Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, resilience, application security, and production support.
- Coordinate AI engineering and support requirement discovery, initiative delivery planning, roadmap, and stakeholder management.
Nice to have
- AI framework experience such as LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, Semantic Kernel, Spring AI, or LangChain4j.
- MLOps/LLMOps knowledge including prompt/model versioning, automated evaluation, monitoring, guardrails, performance optimization, and cost management.
- Experience integrating AI with enterprise platforms and data sources including APIs, messaging, knowledge repositories, workflow tools, and developer platforms.
- Financial services or payments engineering experience including responsible AI, data privacy, regulatory compliance, and multi-country delivery.
