Data Scientist, Developer Productivity

Overview

Data Scientist focused on developer productivity in an AI-first organization, partnering with Developer Productivity engineering leadership to define, measure, and improve how engineers work.

What you'll do

• Lead ambiguous, high-stakes investigations to define and answer productivity questions.
• Instrument early, gather evidence broadly, and revise conclusions as data changes.
• Set the measurement and research agenda with Developer Productivity engineering leadership.
• Define and drive adoption of a developer productivity metrics framework for tooling and infrastructure decisions.
• Design and run experiments on internal tooling/workflow changes and build causal evidence.
• Present data-backed insights and challenge narratives when evidence does not support them.
• Build analytics foundations (pipelines, dashboards, models) directly or via partners.

What you'll need

• Experience writing production-quality SQL and Python (or similar) to build pipelines, dashboards, and models.
• Ability to serve as the primary data/analytics voice to help define questions that are not well-formed.
• A track record of holding conclusions loosely and revising views as evidence warrants.
• Experience shaping what engineering/product teams work on, not only measuring shipped outcomes.
• Interest in how AI changes software development with firsthand experience in harder, less-defined aspects.
• Comfort presenting data-backed conclusions to engineers, including when a feature does not move metrics.

Nice to have

• 8+ years of hands-on data science experience, ideally in infrastructure, performance, or platform contexts.
• Direct experience with developer productivity, developer experience, or internal tooling.
• Experience measuring adoption/impact of AI-assisted workflows or other tooling with contested ground truth.
• Experience building experimentation or causal-inference practices in an org without an existing one.
• Prior staff-level or tech-lead scope, including owning a domain's data strategy end to end.

Details

• Annual salary range: $380,000–$460,000 USD.
• Location-based hybrid policy: expected to be in one of the offices at least 25% of the time.
