Database Reliability Engineer - PostgreSQL, pgvector

Overview

Own the reliability, performance, security, and scalability of AWS-managed PostgreSQL, search, and graph data platforms. Partner with application and AI/ML teams on database design, platform selection, and vector search enablement.

What you'll do

• Manage high availability, recovery, disaster recovery, and zero-downtime upgrades.
• Lead query tuning, index optimization, sharding, and capacity planning.
• Provision data platforms with Terraform, Ansible, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Build monitoring, logging, and alerting with Prometheus, Grafana, and CloudWatch.
• Participate in an on-call rotation for advanced troubleshooting.
• Advise teams on schema design and database selection.
• Implement vector search capabilities for AI/ML workloads.

What you'll need

• 4–7 years administering production PostgreSQL on AWS RDS/Aurora.
• Hands-on experience with OpenSearch/Elasticsearch or Neo4j.
• Knowledge of backup strategies, failover, performance tuning, and data modelling.
• Proficiency with Terraform, Docker/Kubernetes, and CI/CD tools.
• Scripting skills in Python or Bash.
• Experience with AWS security controls including VPC, KMS, and IAM.

Nice to have

• Experience with vector search, Redis/ElastiCache, DynamoDB, or LLM/RAG architectures.
• AWS Certified Database – Specialty, CKA, or platform-specific certifications.
