Design Manager

Overview

As a Design Manager based in AT-India-HQ in Mumbai, you will report to the Sr. Director, Design and support large-scale hyperscale data centre design projects from concept through detailed design phases. You will drive design innovation and efficiency, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders across India, Sydney and Singapore to deliver hyperscale solutions.

What you'll do

• Develop and manage concept, schematic, and detailed design phases for hyperscale data centres in-house or through consultants.
• Get designs reviewed through peer review consultants or principal engineering SMEs.
• Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and internal teams to ensure design integrity and compliance.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship within the design team.
• Ensure projects meet AirTrunk and customer minimum requirements, cost, schedule, and quality objectives.
• Present weekly progress reports and highlight support required and milestones completed.
• Support design completion in terms of cost effectiveness, modularity, technical compliance and feasibility for wider customers via standardization.

What you'll need

• Strong basics, knowledge, understanding and analytical skills in any specialization of Electrical, Mechanical-HVAC, IBMS, Civil-Architectural or Structural engineering.
• 7-10 years of experience in engineering and design, preferably in large-scale infrastructure or data centre buildings and campuses for the entire project life cycle.
• Strong expertise in data centre systems, including UPS, generators, switchgear, chillers, cooling towers, CDUs, fire suppression, structured cabling, core and shell of building structural steel or precast building design, and master planning.
• Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical, Mechanical-HVAC, IBMS, Civil-Architectural or Structural engineering.
• Experience reading and understanding customer RFPs, responding to them, implementing them in design, and discussing technical matters with customers.
• Proven ability to support complex design projects and manage multiple stakeholders.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills and a team-player approach.
• Knowledge and good understanding of the area of specialization, principles and practices within the discipline.
• Ability to work collaboratively with fellow engineers.
• Positive attitude mindset.

Nice to have

• Electrical Engineering experience with EHV and LV distribution for various customer designs.
• Previous experience working as a Design Manager in consultancy or on the client side.
• Knowledge of both disciplines or more.
• Electrical, Mechanical, Civil-Structural or building services Engineering degree.
• Alignment with AirTrunk culture.
