Engineer, Backend - 4 (Java)

Overview

Backend Engineer on Tide's event-driven microservice architecture, owning services end to end: design, build, run and scale.

What you'll do

• Design, build, run and scale the services your team owns across a microservice architecture of 200+ services owned by 40+ teams.
• Build services using Java 17, Spring Boot and JOOQ.
• Expose and consume RESTful APIs, treating APIs as products.
• Send events using SNS+SQS and Kafka.
• Use PostgreSQL via Aurora as the primary datastore.
• Deploy services to production frequently, through CI/CD pipelines on GitHub Actions.
• Work with GitOps using ArgoCD, Docker, Terraform and EKS/Kubernetes.
• Monitor services and investigate issues using DataDog.
• Collaborate with Product Owners to translate user needs, business opportunities and regulatory requirements into engineered solutions.

What you'll need

• Some experience building server-side applications and detailed knowledge of the relevant programming languages for your stack.
• Willingness to learn Java, as most services are written in Java.
• Sound knowledge of a backend framework such as Spring or Spring Boot, used to write microservices that expose and consume RESTful APIs.
• Experience engineering scalable and reliable solutions in a cloud-native environment, with an understanding of the fundamentals of CI/CD and practical Agile.
• A mindset of delivering secure, well-tested and well-documented software that integrates with third-party providers and partners.
• Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools and LLMs to improve engineering productivity, software quality and delivery velocity.
