HR Workday Security Specialist

Overview

The HR Workday Security Specialist defines and governs Workday security policies, access controls, and compliance requirements. The role partners with HR, CIO, IAM, and Compliance teams to maintain secure, audit-ready HR systems and proper access governance across the organization.

What you'll do

• Define Workday security strategy, policies, and access models.
• Review and approve security designs and access changes.
• Develop HR security standards and control requirements.
• Lead audit, compliance, and risk management activities for HR systems.
• Govern the user access lifecycle, including Joiner, Mover, and Leaver processes, and access reviews.
• Partner with CIO, IAM, and HR teams to ensure secure and compliant system operations.
• Review security exceptions and support remediation of audit findings.
• Provide leadership through policy development, security oversight, and cross-functional partnerships.
• Act as the primary security authority for Workday and engage with executives, auditors, and regulators.

What you'll need

• Bachelor’s degree in information security, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Human Resources, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in data security and privacy management, preferably in Workday or other HR systems/tools.
• Strong expertise in Workday security concepts, governance, risk management, and audit compliance.
• Ability to provide security oversight without requiring hands-on system administration.

Nice to have

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with various departments and present reports to senior management.
• Proficiency in security technologies, strategy & policies, and automated security access tools.
• Ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate identified risks.
• Ability to work collaboratively with HR, IT, and other departments to ensure integrated security measures.
• Keen attention to detail to ensure compliance with security policies and regulatory requirements.
