Intermediate Backend Engineer

Overview

Intermediate Backend Engineer on the SSCS Add-On team at GitLab, building a software supply chain security feature for regulated enterprise organizations.

What you'll do

• Implement well-scoped backend features for the Add-On supply chain security product.
• Build and maintain integrations between Add-On functionality and GitLab security scanning infrastructure.
• Write and maintain comprehensive automated test coverage using RSpec and integration tests.
• Contribute across multiple feature areas as priorities evolve, supporting team needs as a generalist.
• Participate in code review by giving and incorporating actionable feedback.
• Contribute clear internal documentation for shipped features and behaviors.
• Collaborate with adjacent Software Supply Chain Security teams to align cross-team delivery.

What you'll need

• Backend development experience delivering maintainable production code.
• Proficiency in Go/Python/RoR and strong PostgreSQL fundamentals.
• Testing discipline with experience using RSpec or an equivalent testing framework.
• Strong written communication skills for async collaboration with distributed teammates.
• Ability to manage scoped work independently and adjust to changing team priorities.
• Interest in package ecosystems such as npm, Maven, PyPI, or OCI containers.
• Interest in software supply chain security, dependency management, DevSecOps, or security-adjacent development.
