Lead- API Engineer

Overview

Lead API Engineer to drive API architecture and backend service design for a platform’s integration capabilities.

What you'll do

• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to the API engineering team.
• Design, implement, and evolve API architecture and backend services.
• Champion API-first development with clear contracts and documentation (OpenAPI/Swagger).
• Implement APIs that conform to security, scalability, and performance non-functional requirements.
• Ensure robust authentication, authorization, and data protection for endpoints.
• Oversee observability, monitoring, and alerting for APIs and backend services.

What you'll need

• At least 7+ years of hands-on API or backend engineering experience.
• At least 4 to 5 years of hands-on experience building API-based solutions.
• At least 2 years of leading teams in API development.
• Strong programming skills in Java 8+ and Spring Boot, with microservices experience.
• API security experience for authentication/authorization (OAuth, JWT, RBAC, PKCE, ReBAC).
• API documentation/standards familiarity (OpenAPI/Swagger and related schemas).
• Some API gateway experience.
