Lead Software Engineer

Overview

Lead a team of developers building and maintaining full stack digital products that give access to Morningstar's core research and data products, while growing the team's skills and performance.

What you'll do

• Lead a team of developers working across .NET, AWS, EKS and GitHub Copilot.
• Collaborate with product management to establish product-related tasks and schedules.
• Collaborate with Software Architects, Product Managers and the Head of Software Development to make technical stack and architecture decisions.
• Act as the business expert on technical and functional components.
• Develop solutions using the best technology available for each scenario.
• Review code and give feedback to help the development sub-team grow and adopt efficient, sustainable development practices.
• Ensure the development team adheres to established coding standards and robust engineering practices.
• Coordinate the implementation of solutions, involving other development teams as needed.
• Using Agile methodology, lead development through the various stages of the app lifecycle.
• Build and maintain relationships with other software development teams, act as point of contact, assess interdependencies, and communicate changes and plans across the organization.
• Work within an Agile framework with developers and QA to release functionality regularly.
• Partner with Software Architects and Product Management to contribute to the technical direction of the product team.
• Assist the Director of Tech in employee performance evaluation, coaching, designing new evaluation metrics, and goal setting.
• Evaluate and improve the technical skills of software developers.
• Contribute to and develop solutions based on requirements within the estimated timeframe.
• Implement unit and integration tests.
• Leverage AI-powered software engineering tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Amazon Q) to accelerate code development, testing, debugging, documentation and code reviews while maintaining quality and security.
• Drive adoption of AI-assisted development practices across the SDLC, establishing best practices, governance and measurable productivity improvements.

What you'll need

• 7+ years of work experience, including 6 years of relevant experience developing solutions and managing development teams.
• 4+ years of experience with .NET, database domain models, n-layered design and OOP; experience with ASP.NET Core 3.1 and .NET Core 3.1.
• 2+ years of experience with Angular 2+ and TypeScript.
• Experience with IdentityServer4, Microservices, Docker and Serilog.
• Good business acumen and business process knowledge.
• Good project management and communication skills.
• Strong data-related skills (relational data sets, queries).
• Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
• Good time management and customer relationship skills.
• Solid understanding of the software development life cycle.
• Proven ability to understand technical environments in a business context.
• Experience working with complex interdependent processes and departments.
• Strong collaboration, time-management and prioritization skills.
• Self-motivated, with an excellent work ethic, strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
• Experience supporting and maintaining live software applications serving a global user base.
• Experience debugging unfamiliar code.
• Experience working with large datasets and relational DBMS platforms (PostgreSQL, MS SQL – SQL / PL-SQL) and ETL tools.

Nice to have

• Experience with Node Package Manager, NuGet, xUnit and Moq.
• SCRUM experience.
• Experience with Agile methodology and tools like Jira.
• Working experience with Git, CI/CD and AWS Cloud services.

• Location: Mumbai.
• Work mode: hybrid, with four days in-office each week in most locations.
