Network Engineering Security

Overview

Join Barclays as a Network Engineering Security role to build and maintain reliable, scalable and secure infrastructure platforms and products supporting applications and data systems. The role covers network engineering, security, vulnerability management, automation and support for network operations.

What you'll do

• Build, deliver and maintain infrastructure solutions that meet business requirements for reliability, performance, availability and ease of use.
• Identify appropriate technologies and solutions to meet business, optimisation and resourcing requirements.
• Monitor IT infrastructure and system performance to identify, address and resolve issues, vulnerabilities and outages.
• Use data to drive down mean time to resolution.
• Develop and implement automated tasks and processes using software scripting and coding disciplines.
• Implement secure configurations and measures to protect hardware, software and data from unauthorised access, cyber-attacks, vulnerabilities and other security threats.
• Collaborate with product managers, architects and other engineers to define infrastructure requirements, devise solutions and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
• Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and contribute to technology communities.
• Perform network engineering activities including design, testing and certification, upgrades and vulnerability management in the lab, with support in production.
• Support the Network Operations team with issues involving network products, including vulnerabilities, bugs and upgrade issues.
• Advise and influence decision making within the area of expertise and act as a contact point for stakeholders outside the immediate function.
• Take responsibility for managing risk, strengthening controls and embedding policies and procedures adopted due to risk mitigation.
• Resolve problems by identifying and selecting solutions through the application of acquired technical experience.
• Guide and persuade team members and communicate complex or sensitive information.

What you'll need

• In-depth technical knowledge and experience in the assigned area of expertise.
• Thorough understanding of the underlying principles and concepts within the area of expertise.
• Subject matter expertise primarily in Fortigate firewalls and IDS.
• Secondary knowledge of Zscaler and Cisco ASA.
• Basic knowledge of tools integration including SNMP-based tools such as DX NetOps, Syslog tools such as Elastic Search / Observe, and TACACS/Radius / RSA Server.
• Detailed basic understanding of network packet flow.
• Ability to provide logic to other engineers for compliance checks and remediation using Ansible automation.
• Ability to partner with other functions and business areas and take responsibility for team operational processing and activities.
• Ability to make evaluative judgements based on factual information and attention to detail.
• Ability to escalate policy or procedure breaches appropriately.
• Ability to deliver work in line with relevant rules, regulations and codes of conduct.
