Primary Design Engineer

Overview

Primary Design Engineer providing engineering authority for low to medium complexity projects and tenders, executing complete engineering assignments in line with contract specifications and quality standards.

What you'll do

• Prepare substation layouts and section drawings, grounding system drawings, lightning system design and drawings, cable routings, and clearance drawings based on customer technical specifications and OU Engineering inputs.
• Prepare bills of materials, RFQs, and engineering hour estimations.
• Vet vendor offers and evaluate vendor offers.
• Visit project sites.
• Perform technical risk assessment and opportunity evaluation.
• Verify technical data sheets of primary equipment.
• Perform FAT / SAT of primary equipment and systems as and when needed.
• Validate technical risks and opportunities.
• Propose innovative ideas to reduce engineering effort.
• Plan, implement, review and continuously improve the quality system and follow Opex initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

What you'll need

• Bachelor's or diploma degree in Electrical Engineering, with 7 - 12 years' experience.
• Experience handling complete engineering deliverables for AIS and GIS projects.
• Proficiency in required CAD design tools (BIM Tools, BIM 360, Navisworks, Microstation / AutoCAD, AutoCAD REVIT, 3D competence).
• Knowledge of relevant international standards such as IEEE and IEC.
• Knowledge in substation tendering and project engineering activities (technical and commercial).
• Understanding of auxiliary design aspects of substations, such as LVAC / LVDC supplies, cable sizing, battery and battery charger sizing.
• Knowledge of primary equipment, such as circuit breakers, disconnectors, earthing switches, instrument transformers, power transformers.
• Individual contributor using in-depth knowledge in a specific area to execute complex or specialized projects and challenges, often thinking independently to challenge traditional solutions.
• Comprehensive knowledge of related disciplines in the organization.
• Works independently, applying established standards.
• Proficiency in both spoken and written English language.
• High level of ownership.
