Principal AI Engineer Optimisation Intelligence and Agent Orchestration

Overview

Lead the technical direction for AI-augmented optimisation and intelligent operational decisioning across Network Design and Ocean Operations. Guide specialists and shape AI, optimisation, and agentic decision systems for planning and execution.

What you'll do

• Lead optimisation intelligence across network design, routing, vessel deployment, cargo flow, and operational decisioning.
• Set direction for problem framing, optimisation approaches, heuristics, search, and AI-enhanced decision quality.
• Guide specialists building optimisation models, analytical components, and AI capabilities.
• Drive experimentation to evaluate methods and improve performance, robustness, and scalability.
• Define how AI interacts with solver layers, heuristics, optimisation services, and enterprise workflows.
• Lead agentic AI for reasoning, orchestration, exception handling, and human-in-the-loop support.
• Communicate assumptions, trade-offs, and limitations to senior stakeholders.

What you'll need

• Advanced degree in engineering, mathematics, computer science, operations research, or another quantitative field.
• Significant experience leading applied AI, decision intelligence, optimisation, or analytical platform work.
• Strong understanding of optimisation and modelling principles.
• Experience improving planning, routing, scheduling, or network optimisation.
• Strong Python skills and collaboration with software and data engineering teams.
• Ability to lead experimentation and validate model performance.
• Strong communication skills for explaining technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience in logistics, supply chain, shipping, transportation, or another optimisation-heavy industry.
• Exposure to large-scale network design, routing, fleet planning, or cargo flow optimisation.
• Experience with learning-augmented algorithms, surrogate models, search guidance, or reinforcement learning.
• Experience taking optimisation methods from research and prototyping into production.
