Principal Software Engineer

Overview

Principal Software Engineer (IC, Senior) at Cleo India in Bangalore, participating in all facets of software development and/or sustaining, solving complex problems, and promoting engineering discipline across the project team.

What you'll do

• Have an AI-first mindset, using AI coding assistants to generate code while retaining comprehension of the generated code.
• Use AI across designing, building, testing, and supporting software products.
• Build AI and agentic capabilities using stacks such as AWS Bedrock, LangGraph, Strands, Mastra etc.
• Design and implement the most complex changes across multiple platform components based on requirements.
• Define software components or solution architecture patterns.
• Make decisions related to design approaches, interoperability and integration.
• Consult with other project teams and product management in areas of expertise.
• Evaluate and recommend external technologies for inclusion in products.
• Report progress and risks to management, and alert management to risks from customer concerns, personnel difficulties and/or product problems (quality/delivery).
• May become a reference on specific technical subjects.
• Mentor and transfer knowledge to less experienced team members, perhaps in different locations.
• Architect end-to-end AI-powered systems integrating LLM APIs such as Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, and AWS Bedrock into production applications.
• Design and implement agentic workflows including tool use, memory, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations that connect AI models to real data sources and services.
• Lead architectural decisions around latency, cost, observability, and safety when LLMs are in the critical path of a product.

What you'll need

• Bachelor's Degree (and/or Post Graduate Degree) in computer science, software engineering or related field.
• 10+ years in software development.
• Hands-on experience working with technologies and languages like Java, Node, Typescript, Angular, and SQL.

Nice to have

• Experience in any of the cloud technologies like AWS, Azure, GCP (preferably AWS).
