Principal Software Engineer, AI Email App

Overview

Own the engineering layer for an AI email application, shaping architecture across backend services, APIs, and client applications. Lead a small senior engineering team while remaining hands-on with code and architectural decisions.

What you'll do

• Own application engineering strategy across backend, mobile, and desktop.
• Design reliable AI workflow systems covering state, orchestration, retries, fallbacks, and failure handling.
• Build APIs and abstractions connecting AI systems to product experiences.
• Lead a small senior engineering team through design reviews, code reviews, and mentorship.
• Balance latency, reliability, cost, security, and user experience.
• Establish observability, monitoring, testing, and operational practices.
• Partner with ML leadership to ship robust AI product experiences.

What you'll need

• Significant experience leading application or product engineering for complex systems.
• Strong hands-on experience building and shipping production backend systems.
• Experience building AI-powered products or systems integrating modern ML or LLM capabilities.
• Strong technical judgment when making decisions with incomplete information.
• Experience across backend and client platforms, with deep expertise in at least one.
• Strong ownership, delivery, and learning orientation.
• High standards for code quality, reliability, and engineering fundamentals.
