Overview
Research Scientist (Life Sciences: Chemistry) to build end-to-end medicinal chemistry experiments that test AI-generated hypotheses and small-molecule designs.
What you'll do
- Design multi-step synthetic routes for small molecules and oversee execution end to end.
- Optimize reactions, purification strategy, and interpret characterization data (NMR, LC-MS, HPLC).
- Coordinate synthesis and biological evaluation with external CROs and academic partners.
- Evaluate AI-designed molecules and AI-proposed synthetic routes via experimental readouts and feedback to research teams.
- Apply medicinal chemistry principles (SAR analysis and physicochemical property optimization) for compound prioritization.
- Ensure data quality and documentation, including procedures, spectra, and failure modes.
- Communicate findings to chemistry, AI research, and life sciences audiences.
What you'll need
- PhD in chemistry.
- Demonstrated medicinal chemistry experience with SAR-driven design and optimization of small molecules.
- Recent, sustained hands-on synthetic work.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and define problems in a rapidly evolving research environment.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Details
- Fully on-site in the San Francisco Bay Area.
