Safety Specialist

About the role

We're seeking an experienced Safety Specialist to lead Safety Management System implementation and auditing at a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Gujarat. You'll work hands-on with the plant team to strengthen safety practices, drive cultural transformation, and ensure compliance with industry standards through technical expertise and field-level guidance.

What you'll do

• Interpret and translate client safety standards (including PTW and HIRA protocols) into actionable implementation plans for the plant team
• Provide direct on-site support and technical direction for SMS element rollout, including safety culture improvement initiatives
• Guide element champions and taskforce teams through implementation phases, overseeing on-field data collection and quality assurance
• Conduct field visits and safety audits to verify effectiveness of implementations and identify gaps
• Facilitate one-on-one coaching sessions with the client's SMS team to troubleshoot challenges and share specialized expertise
• Develop and deliver safety awareness programs and technical training modules tailored to SMS elements
• Monitor and report on safety KPIs; prepare daily activity reports and monthly MIS (Management Information System) with progress updates, element status, and intervention effectiveness
• Participate actively in SMS team meetings, ensuring quality discussions and alignment with project objectives
• Provide regular assurance updates and insights to client leadership on project progress

What we're looking for

• 15+ years of hands-on experience in Safety Management System implementation and auditing within the pharmaceutical industry
• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering with a post-graduate qualification in Industrial Safety (ME Industrial Safety) or recognized safety certification (PDIS or ADIS)
• Proven expertise in PTW (Permit to Work) and HIRA (Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment) methodologies
• Strong ability to engage with shopfloor employees, plant leadership, and cross-functional teams; excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Experience in developing safety technical training modules and driving safety culture transformation

Nice to have

• Prior experience working with multinational pharma clients or complex manufacturing environments
• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements in the Indian pharma sector
• Track record of leading large-scale, multi-element SMS implementations
