Overview
Scientific Data Engineer (Product Safety) translating scientific research requirements into scalable, production-ready data solutions for the Product Safety digital transformation.
What you'll do
- Architect and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines for scientific datasets aligned with FAIR data principles.
- Lead Databricks integration using Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and data governance.
- Deliver strategic data product prototypes and transition them to production-grade products with domain leads.
- Bridge scientific subject matter experts and technical teams to clarify requirements.
- Contribute to data literacy initiatives, including training and mentoring as you grow.
- Collaborate with Digital Portfolio Lead and Digital Strategy/Domain leadership.
What you'll need
- Proven data engineering experience with Databricks (Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Apache Spark) in cloud-based AWS environments.
- Strong programming skills in Python and SQL.
- Experience with software version control and deployment automation (Git and CI/CD workflows).
- Solid data modelling knowledge for relational and dimensional data and structured/semi-structured formats.
- Experience with complex datasets and the ability to quickly grasp new domains.
- A consultative, people-facing approach and ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to have
- Experience with life science data (e.g., toxicology, ecotoxicology, chemical data structures).
- Experience delivering data for machine learning model development on external platforms.
- Understanding of data architecture principles (data lakehouse, data mesh, data products).
- Familiarity with data quality frameworks and management tools (e.g., GX, Soda).
- Willingness to challenge the status quo by identifying inefficiencies and advocating for better solutions.
