Senior Backend Engineer, Trusted Agentic Development

Overview

Senior Backend Engineer on GitLab’s Trusted Agentic Development team, focused on validating agent-generated software so “passing tests” reflects working functionality.

What you'll do

• Own the technical thesis for how GitLab validates software when an agent is the author.
• Prototype feedback mechanisms that catch the gap between passing tests and working software.
• Develop language-aware “trusted” approaches for Rust, Ruby, and Go under one shared model.
• Design mid-loop feedback so agents self-correct toward working software rather than green assertions.
• Collaborate to adopt approaches, measure adoption, and improve validation quality using results.
• Set technical direction, review designs, and support teammates’ technical judgment.

What you'll need

• Deep, current, hands-on experience building real software with AI agents.
• Experience across more than one language, ideally.
• Understanding of how agent output can pass tests yet fail in production.
• Experience designing distributed systems for Kubernetes first.
• Strong written communication in an all-remote, asynchronous environment.
• Alignment with collaboration, iteration, and transparency values.
