Senior Distribution Engineer, Gitlab: Build

Overview

Senior Distribution Engineer on the GitLab Build team, responsible for packaging GitLab components, maintaining build tooling and release processes, and enabling secure distribution across supported platforms and architectures.

What you'll do

• Build and maintain packages for supported Linux distributions and architectures.
• Develop and maintain official GitLab container images and build tooling.
• Provide guides and infrastructure for self-service component integration.
• Collaborate with security teams to mitigate vulnerabilities and update dependencies.
• Manage cloud marketplace listings and provider integrations.
• Test installation, update, and upgrade documentation and processes.
• Ensure license compliance and submit packages for partner validation.

What you'll need

• Use Linux build toolchains such as autotools, make, CMake, or Nix.
• Build container images and use container build tooling in production.
• Build .deb and .rpm packages on Debian- and Red Hat Enterprise Linux-based systems.
• Use continuous integration systems such as GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Travis CI.
• Write and maintain complex shell scripts in production.
• Communicate in English in a remote, largely asynchronous environment.
• Work with major cloud providers such as Google Cloud, AWS, or Microsoft Azure.

Nice to have

• Experience with Ruby, Go, Python, or Rust.
• Experience with Prometheus or Grafana.
