Overview
Senior engineer role performing power systems analysis, modeling and integration studies for renewable generation, battery energy storage, HVDC and FACTS, supporting customers and communicating results.
What you'll do
- Perform technical analysis related to power electronic and power systems control of renewable generation, battery energy storage systems, large industrial drives, HVDC and FACTS.
- Support customers with power systems engineering expertise, including modeling, analysis, equipment design and specification, and failure mode analysis.
- Create, modify and parametrize simulation models representing electrical equipment such as gas turbines, wind turbines, solar inverters, battery storage and their controls in PSS/E, PSCAD and DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
- Perform power system planning studies, renewable integration studies, and feasibility studies for HVDC, FACTS and energy storage for large utility systems.
- Effectively communicate results to internal and external customers by preparing detailed written reports or presentations describing analyses performed, solutions developed, and customer value propositions.
- Enhance industry knowledge and present technical content in regional forums and conferences; serve as a thought leader in industry activities.
- Participate in a working environment where teamwork, quality, customer service and innovation are prized.
What you'll need
- Master's degree in electrical engineering or electric power engineering.
- Minimum 2-3 years of industry experience performing transient analysis using simulation tools such as ATP/EMTP, PSCAD/EMTDC and EMTP-RV, and/or steady state and dynamic analysis using large database simulation tools such as PSS/E, PowerFactory and PSLF.
- Experience with the use and application of common programming languages (e.g. Python, FORTRAN, C, C++).
Nice to have
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills (e.g. ability to effectively communicate with all levels of GE and customer/plant staff).
- Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering, electric power engineering, or related field of study.
- Industry reputation, prior IEEE/CIGRE published articles related to practical power systems engineering topics, participation in industry standards working groups.
- Experience creating and modifying dynamic user models in simulation tools like PSS/E, PSCAD, PowerFactory and PSLF.
- Knowledge of grid codes of major utilities in Asia, Australia and Middle East and exposure to grid code compliance studies.
- Advanced experience with dynamic and time-domain simulation tools (e.g. FORTRAN programming of user-written black box models in PSCAD, use of MATLAB or Python scripting to automate execution and analysis of multiple simulations).
- Demonstrated application of complex mathematics and engineering to real-world electric power system problems.
Details
- Willingness to travel to support project work (up to 10%).
- Relocation assistance provided.
