Overview
Senior engineer role on the Prime Core team, which builds and runs the open-spec trading APIs and solutions serving institutional and retail clients, including real-time price distribution, order and execution flow, and reference data.
What you'll do
- Write production Java that other people have to maintain: tested, readable, and honest about its edge cases.
- Work in a spec-driven, AI-assisted development workflow, specifying intent clearly, using AI tooling to move fast, and reviewing its output critically.
- Contribute to design discussions and technical decisions.
- Deploy and run what you build in AWS, and learn how the cloud behaves when things go wrong.
- Work with the wider team to investigate production issues using logs, metrics, traces and JVM diagnostics.
- Take ownership of services, and help the engineers around you grow through mentoring and code review.
What you'll need
- 7 to 12 years of professional Java development experience, including hands-on AWS.
- Solid commercial experience writing Java in a production environment.
- Real understanding of JVM runtime behaviour: memory management and garbage collection, the Java memory model, and thread interaction.
- Working knowledge of concurrency and multi-threading, including visibility problems, contention, and bugs that appear only under load.
- Practical JVM diagnostics skills: reading thread and heap dumps, reasoning about GC behaviour, profiling, and narrowing down memory leaks or contention problems.
- Experience with the Spring Framework, ideally Spring Boot.
- Hands-on AWS experience: you have deployed and debugged something real in the cloud and understand the services you used.
- Practical experience using AI coding tools as part of your normal workflow, with the judgement to know when their output is wrong.
- Comfort on Linux, including basic shell scripting.
- Curiosity and persistence in digging into problems, and willingness to ask questions early and often.
