What you'll do
- Select and evaluate aerospace materials such as titanium, aluminum/aluminum-lithium, high-strength steels, nickel alloys, and advanced materials based on performance, producibility, and application requirements.
- Develop and execute material characterization and qualification programs, including A/B-basis design allowable and mechanical, fatigue, fracture, creep, and environmental testing.
- Conduct metallurgical evaluations and failure investigations for material/process non-conformances, production issues, test anomalies, and in-service failures.
- Ensure compliance with engineering drawings, AMS/ASTM specifications, AS9100, Nadcap, FAA, and customer requirements; support AMPL governance and audits.
- Provide technical guidance to Design, Quality, Manufacturing, and Supplier Engineering teams and resolve material/process compliance issues.
- Assess corrosion, galvanic compatibility, SCC, hydrogen embrittlement, fatigue, fracture, and environmental degradation risks.
- Develop technical standards, review methodologies, reports, white papers, and engineering recommendations.
What you'll need
- Strong fundamentals in metallurgy and materials science with work experience in manufacturing process and special process for aerospace materials.
- Knowledge in interpretation of industry material specifications, processes and specifications (AMS, MIL, ASTM, IS, BS, etc.) and experience in laboratory characterization and testing of materials.
- Hands-on experience with advanced characterization techniques such as SEM/EDS, EBSD, XRD, etc. to evaluate microstructure, grain flow, hardness, UTM/tensile properties, coatings.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, supplier assessment, and technical communication skills.
- Experience with ERP/PLM systems such as SAP, Teamcenter, or equivalent.
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in Materials Science/Metallurgical Engineering, or bachelor's degree in metallurgical/Materials engineering.
- 8 to 12 years of relevant aerospace, defense, space, or high-performance manufacturing experience.
