Software Development Engineer

Overview

Software Development Engineer (P3) on the Elevate Engineering team, delivering revenue-generating advertising features across Zillow's consumer brands, with independent ownership of well-scoped projects.

What you'll do

• Independently deliver non-trivial features and improvements on revenue-generating advertising products
• Design solutions to well-scoped problems and contribute to system design discussions
• Work across the stack: React/TypeScript micro-frontends, GraphQL federation, and backend services
• Integrate with ad-tech systems such as Google Ad Manager/GPT, Prebid, and viewability and identity vendors
• Ship experiments safely through A/B trial platforms with clear guardrail metrics and rollback paths
• Use AI coding assistants while exercising judgment on when to trust, revise, or set aside generated output
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Technical Program Managers, Ad Ops, and page-owner teams
• Help refine team processes through agile ceremonies and support team growth through interviewing and onboarding

What you'll need

• 4+ years designing, coding, and debugging production web applications and backend services
• Strong proficiency in React and TypeScript for modern front-end development
• Experience with micro-frontend architectures, server-side rendering, and web performance optimization
• Solid backend experience in Node.js/TypeScript and/or Java (Spring Boot)
• Comfortable designing and consuming GraphQL APIs
• Experience with AWS and container/Kubernetes-based platforms
• Experience with CI/CD (GitLab or similar) and observability tooling such as Datadog
• Rigorous about quality: unit and integration testing (Jest, Playwright or equivalent), code review, and monitoring
• A track record of independently delivering well-scoped features with quality
• Communicates clearly with technical and non-technical partners and seeks guidance when facing ambiguity
• BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience

Nice to have

• Federated graph experience with GraphQL

Details

• Office position: regularly works at the Zillow India office approximately 80 to 100 percent of the time each month
• Must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the office
