Software Development Test Engineer

Overview

Software Development Test Engineer on the Cisco Networking Engineering team in Bangalore, testing optical features of high-end routers and optical line systems through automated, data-driven test methods.

What you'll do

• Own multiple features or domains such as optical applications or datapath of a product, with end-to-end responsibility.
• Act as an interface between the product design team and customers to translate requirements effectively.
• Work on feature tests of DWDM line systems, EDFAs, Raman amplifiers, ROADMs, and control loops.
• Design tests to evaluate software quality, accuracy, and functionality using various testing methods.
• Understand product and customer design documents and map them to test efforts.
• Perform functional, performance, security, and regression testing.
• Conduct and engage in peer reviews of test plans and automation scripts.
• Plan, build, and maintain complex optical line systems in lab environments for solution-level testing.
• Conduct system-level testing using fully automated methods with Python, covering management interfaces such as CLI, Netconf, Restconf, OpenConfig, SNMP, and Telemetry.
• Participate in debugging complex network issues during testing and in customer networks.
• Collaborate and communicate effectively across geographies, including direct customer interfacing and stakeholder management.
• Work in an agile development environment, participate in sprint activities, and align with CI pipelines.
• Engage in continuous improvement and transformation with scientific, data-driven testing.
• Write Python automation test plans which define the automation strategy and test cases for new features, solution tests and system tests.

What you'll need

• 5-8 years of experience working in optical features and having expertise in the same feature and domain.
• Automated end-to-end system/solution test experience.
• Strong software engineering test methodology and process knowledge.
• Proficiency in Python automation to automate tests as well as frameworks for faster coverage.

Nice to have

• Knowledge and testing/automation skill in NMS/EMS.
