Software Engineer, Engine Infrastructure

Overview

Engineer on the Engine Infrastructure team building C++ game engine sub-systems and distributed server-scaling systems that power Roblox's global developer community.

What you'll do

• Develop engine code in C++ for sub-systems critical to the Roblox game engine.
• Work on sub-systems that handle data syncing between server and client, game-aware data streaming, and harmonizing resource usage to ensure gameplay works on various devices with varying CPU and memory capabilities.
• Design systems that enable Roblox to scale its game server fleet to millions of servers across the world.

What you'll need

• 3+ years of industry experience.
• Experience designing and leading implementation of highly scalable and reliable distributed backend systems.
• Proficient in C++ and one or more programming languages (C#, Go, Python or similar).
• Familiarity with developing applications that run on Linux.
• Curiosity and passion for crafting high-performance technologies and adopting new technologies, such as AI and agents, into your workflow, and applying them to practical problems.
• Ability to collaborate in cross-functional and cross-team projects to deliver the most curated technical solution.
• Willingness to take the long view to drive collaboration and build the system.

Nice to have

• Deep understanding of C++.
• Familiarity with game engines.

Details

• Based at headquarters in San Mateo, CA.
• Roles based in the office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
• Full-time position.
• Annual base salary range: $182,170 — $227,370 USD.
• Eligible for equity compensation and benefits.
• For US-based roles only: the Company may not be able to employ candidates who have United States work authorization related to certain U.S. visa categories, or support future H-1B sponsorship at this time.
