Software Engineer I, Backend (Collections)

Overview

Software Engineer I supporting Affirm’s Collections team in the Repayments area to build and maintain backend collections platform solutions.

What you'll do

• Manage loans throughout the delinquency phase of their lifecycle.
• Develop and implement recovery strategies.
• Build robust collections solutions to keep the loan portfolio healthy.
• Collaborate with product managers, risk teams, and other engineering teams.
• Monitor and detect problems and help ensure high reliability of engineering systems.
• Balance speed and quality while protecting systems from downtime.

What you'll need

• Previous work or internship experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience using Python or Kotlin for backend development.
• Familiarity with distributed systems building blocks.
• Experience with AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Ability to write clear, well-tested, extensible code for multi-component solutions.
• Experience debugging and participating in code reviews for feedback.
