Software Engineer - Sr. Consultant level (10+ years, Performance Engineering/Testing)

Overview

Software Engineer on the Risk and Security team within Visa's Value Added Services Product Development group, focused on performance engineering and testing of high-throughput payment processing systems.

What you'll do

• Create application and infrastructure performance plans and models for a highly scalable, low-latency, highly-available and high-throughput payment processing system.
• Work with architects and the development team to instrument software components with metrics to facilitate real-time and remote troubleshooting and performance monitoring.
• Evaluate, develop and execute load test tools to stress the limits of Visa's most critical payment applications.
• Performance test APIs, abstractions and integration patterns to solve challenging distributed computing problems.
• Define performance strategy and report performance baselines required to certify Go-Lives.
• Document the steps performed during performance test cycles, including the performance test scripts used.
• Review code and suggest optimization techniques.
• Build in-depth expertise on Visa's 24x7 systems that support clients, and support issues within SLAs for established priorities, fixing issues, bugs and enhancements.
• Design, document and implement new systems, and enhance and modify existing software to comply with design specifications, security and Java best practices.
• Coordinate Continuous Integration activities and testing automation frameworks, while contributing core product code.
• Automate monitoring, deployment and incident response, and lead investigations into complex technical issues to prevent future incidents.
• Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders, including issuers, acquirers, merchants and partners, and communicate status, issues and risks precisely and in a timely manner.

What you'll need

• 10+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree, or at least 10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD), OR 14+ years of relevant work experience.
• Hands-on experience in Unix/Linux OS environments, operating system internals, file systems, disk/storage and networking protocols.
• Expert knowledge and strong experience using tools such as Loadrunner or JMeter, and understanding of APM solutions such as AppDynamics, Dynatrace, OPNET, or other comparable tools.
• Coding knowledge in Java or Python, and scripting languages.
• Must have worked in agile and scrum.
• Excellent communication skills.

Nice to have

• 10 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree.
• Experience in distributed enterprise application development using the Java technology stack, and server-side development experience.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language (Java, C++, Python, etc.).
• Good understanding of RDBMS such as Oracle, MySQL, MSSQL or Postgres.
• Excellent understanding of CI/CD processes and exposure to tools such as Jenkins, Maven, GitHub Actions, etc.
• Proficiency in performance testing tools such as LoadRunner, JMeter, BlazeMeter, and APM/observability solutions such as AppDynamics, Dynatrace, OPNET, Prometheus, Grafana.
• Ability to design components independently and experience with highly scalable web services.
• Working knowledge of VMs and containers, and exposure to containerized microservices architecture.
• Troubleshooting, root cause analysis and implementing major components for large projects.
• Knowledge of Splunk, thread and heap dump analysis, GC analysis, and Grafana monitoring of system metrics and application analysis tools.
• Good understanding of algorithms and data structures.
• Knowledge of GenAI, ChatGPT, LLM.
