Overview
Senior Member of Technical Staff (SMTS) in Software Engineering on Salesforce's Secrets product, building secure backend components and distributed services for a Tier 0 secrets management platform.
What you'll do
- Design and build secrets management features for the core Secrets product, contributing to the architecture for multi-cloud Infrastructure as Code (IaC) deployments used for secret storage, access, and distribution.
- Build and run highly sensitive, "Tier 0" services, writing scalable and resilient code, participating in on-call, and debugging distributed-systems issues to keep secret access reliable and low-latency.
- Work hands-on with PKI, X.509, and cryptographic primitives to implement dynamic secret generation, automated key rotation, device identity, and zero-trust authentication, with guidance from senior technical leads.
- Build and harden secure credential delivery, supporting real-time and non-real-time communication across heterogeneous networks with strict access controls and a focus on minimizing blast radius.
- Provide thorough code reviews, improve test coverage and tooling, and mentor junior engineers on the team.
- Build and ship high-quality, production-grade software using modern engineering practices, with AI as a core part of your development workflow.
- Design and orchestrate complex systems where AI agents integrate seamlessly into human workflows.
- Contribute to building and maintaining the shared system context, an explicit repository of system designs, constraints, and standards that enables AI to operate accurately and reliably.
- Critically evaluate code (human or AI-generated) for correctness, quality, security, and performance.
What you'll need
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in a software development role at a product-based software technology company.
- 3+ years of development experience in public cloud environments (AWS preferred; GCP a plus).
- Strong, hands-on programming expertise in Golang, Java, C#, Python, Rust, or C/C++.
- Experience building highly available, scalable services backed by relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., Postgres, DynamoDB, Cassandra).
- Solid working knowledge of cloud computing, including Infrastructure as Code (IaC), container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes), and core distributed networking (TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing).
- Applied knowledge of cloud security design, Secrets Management, PKI/X.509, and OWASP principles.
- Proven ability to design and deliver well-architected components and work effectively across teams with strong problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated, genuine AI-first approach to engineering, using AI to move faster, build fluency across the stack, and contribute beyond your core specialty.
- Experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex, Cursor, etc.) in development workflows.
- Advanced prompt engineering skills and the ability to write precise, structured prompts and cultivate the system context that makes AI outputs reliable, secure, and production-ready.
