Sr. Software Engineer II - AI Engineering (Remote Eligible)

Overview

Sr. Software Engineer II focused on AI Engineering, building production-grade LLM-powered agents and workflows using Smartsheet SmartAssist and an Agent Development Lifecycle.

What you'll do

• Design and build LLM-powered agents and workflows, including system design, data pipelines, and deployment strategies.
• Develop and optimize prompts, RAG pipelines, agent reasoning patterns, and evaluation frameworks for accuracy and hallucination rates.
• Implement and manage end-to-end AI systems on cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) with monitoring, optimization, and incident response.
• Translate business requirements into technical AI solutions by collaborating with Engineering and Product teams.
• Mentor other engineers on applied ML best practices and production AI development considerations.
• Establish standards for AI development, model governance, and responsible AI.
• Contribute to full stack application development across legacy and greenfield components.

What you'll need

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years working directly with LLMs in production.
• Hands-on prompt engineering and context engineering experience.
• Working knowledge of RAG architectures including chunking, embedding models, retrieval evaluation, and failure diagnosis.
• Experience building or extending LLM evaluation frameworks (scorers and golden datasets).
• Strong Python skills and comfort in data-heavy environments (Databricks, Delta tables, or equivalent).
• Fluency in agent system design with peer-level architectural tradeoff discussions.
• BS or MS in Computer Science (or related field) or equivalent industry experience.

Details

• Work location: Remote eligible; ATS location line shows “-REMOTE, USA-”.
• US base salary range: $175,000–$245,000 USD.
